George Nakayama is Senior Adviser of Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. and Chair of Committee on Responsible Business Conduct & SDGs Promotion of Keidanren. Prior to his current position at Daiichi Sankyo, he served as President and CEO, followed by Chairman and CEO, of the pharmaceutical company. Mr. Nakayama joined the former Daiichi group as President of Daiichi Suntory Pharma Co.,Ltd. upon the spin-off of the Pharmaceutical Division of Suntory Co., Ltd. in 2002.He served as President of Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association from May 2018 to May 2021 and also is Outside Director of Ajinomoto Co., Inc. Mr. Nakayama earned a Master of Science degree from Osaka University in 1976 and an MBA from Northwestern University in 1979.

1976年に大阪大学基礎工学部大学院修士号取得後、1979年にノースウエスタン大学大学院(MBA) を修了。同年サントリ―株式会社入社後、第一サントリーファーマ株式会社のスピンオフに伴い、旧第一製薬に入社、2003年より同社取締役に着任。第一三共株式会社に経営統合後、海外管理部門などを担当、常務執行役員、副社長執行役員を経て、2014 年より同社代表取締役社長兼CEO, 2017 年より代表取締役会長兼CEOに着任。2018年から2021年まで日本製薬工業協会会長を歴任。現在、第一三共株式会社常勤顧問、日本経済団体連合会企業行動・SDGs委員長、および、味の素株式会社社外取締役を務める。
