[TOKYO, JAPAN, 14 October 2011]
The Japan Committee for UNICEF (JCU) worked together with Dentsu and others in the creation of the commercial “Happy Birthday 3.11”. The commercial was presented on JCU’s website, YouTube and various outdoor video screens. Now, JCU will put the smiling faces of babies born in the disaster affected areas on 11 March 2011 on display at a photo exhibition at Tokyo Midtown, Roppongi, starting on 14 October. The exhibit will present photos of children born, along with their stories as documented by photographer Kisei Kobayashi.
The following is a message from the Happy Birthday 3.11 Project staff: “The 11 March 2011 disaster took countless lives along with it. The same day, however, many new lives were welcomed into the world. JCU wants to deliver a heartfelt happy-birthday message to those children, thanking them for the life that they have brought to the region, and wishing them many more happy birthdays to come. JCU hopes that this video will inspire others to think about the future of Japan by remembering the future of these children.”
The photo exhibition, “Happy Birthday 3.11: The story of the babies born into the 11 March disaster their families”, will be held until Thursday, 27 October at Fujifilm Square’s Fujifilm Photo Salon located on the first floor of Midtown West. The exhibit is open everyday from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. (closes at 4:00 p.m. on the final day) and admission is free of charge.
